Manila, 29th March 2024: To enable a robust structure for the country’s cybersecurity framework and provide a definite route in terms of policy implementation and operational guidelines, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. aka PBBM approved the National Cybersecurity Plan 2024-2029.
The above development got widespread attention after the announcement made by the DICT Secretary, Ivan John Uy earlier in February. According to him, the all-encompassing plan which took over a year in the making was presented to the President after a thorough consultation with numerous stakeholders across the public and private sectors including academia. Before arriving at the plan, a detailed comparison among cybersecurity plans of all the other nations was also carried out.
The plan is also said to be laced with advanced threat assessment to ensure the government can obtain information ahead of its global counterparts before a likely attack or cyber incident.
Furthermore, the DICT Secretary particularly highlighted another aspect of the plan which focuses on capacity building and closing the cybersecurity skills gap. Uy has forecasted that in the coming two decades, one of the world’s youngest and biggest workforce will reside in the Philippines, a sure boon for economic development.
